The health risk associated with the long-term night
As per reports, switching from day shift to working evenings or nights can increase your waistline. On the other hand, participants who switched from working at night to working in the day saw a decrease in their BMIs.
Working on night shifts can also cause heart disease. One study done by the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston revealed that nurses who worked rotating night shifts for 10 years or longer developed a 15 per cent or higher increased risk of coronary heart disease compared to those who did not do night shift duty.
According to the a study, women who do long-term night shifts have an increased risk of developing cancer by almost a fifth than those who do not work such shifts. The researchers found that night shifts can raise the risk even greater for skin cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer.
